At Elevate Spectrum, we believe no one should be held back from living, learning, or connecting with others just because they can’t afford it. The Elevate Foundation was created to help more people across central Maryland access technology-forward services and transition to independence or semi-independent living.
This small but growing fund supports individuals who are a good fit for our services but might not have access to enough funds (private or otherwise).
Right now, Foundation funds are used in these key areas:
- Smart Living rent support: When someone is ready to move into one of our Smart Living apartments but their funding doesn’t cover the full rent, Elevate Foundation can help close the gap.
- Spectrum Day Out access: Most Spectrum Day Out activities are fully funded through the Foundation, so participants can enjoy social outings without having to worry about the cost.
- Security deposits: For participants moving into a new apartment, the Foundation can help with security deposits — an upfront cost that isn’t always covered by other funding sources.
- Lease guarantor fees: In some cases, landlords require a third-party guarantor (someone who agrees to pay rent and other lease costs if the tenant can’t). When this extra step creates a financial barrier, the Foundation can step in to help cover the cost.
- Assistive tech and training: From communication devices to scheduling apps or tablets, the Foundation can fund tools and training that help participants build skills and stay independent.
As our programs expand, we expect the Foundation’s role to grow, helping us say yes more often and remove financial barriers.
What is the Elevate Foundation?
The Elevate Foundation is the nonprofit initiative behind Elevate Spectrum. At the moment, it’s funded entirely by Elevate’s own services: every time you work with us through Smart Living, our employment programs, or housing supports, you’re also helping someone else access life-changing support.
In the future, we hope to grow the Foundation with the help of individual donors, corporate sponsors, and grant funding. Our long-term vision is a community-backed fund that makes Elevate’s innovative services accessible to more people across Maryland.
Who can access Foundation funds?
We’re still shaping the official process, but right now, the Elevate Foundation is here for:
- Adults with autism or intellectual disabilities who want to be more independent at home, at work, or in the community
- Families who need short-term assistance to bridge a gap in funding for technology, housing, or social activities
- Applicants for Elevate Spectrum programs who don’t yet qualify for waiver-based services but could benefit from starting sooner
We evaluate each request on a case-by-case basis, with the goal of removing barriers to help people access the support they need.
